The head of the Russian Blue is short and wedge-shaped with a flat skull and forehead and a medium muzzle. The large, almond-shaped eyes are wide apart. The ears are set high, broad at the base and taper to a point. The tail is quite long and right, should not be too wide at the base and taps running again. The Russian Blue is in three colors - blue, black and white - but only the blue color is recognized.

Despite the fact that they sometimes can be very playful and continue into old age, they are mostly peaceful in nature. Blue Russians love and comfort for hours at a place to lie down, preferably the lap of one of the family. Most Russians have a strong blue hate noise and hubbub, and they are growing up in families with children may not feel at home. Compared with people they do not know, Blue Russians are very cautious and pull back when visit. They are in general agreement with other cats and dogs.
